Weekend Adventure

This past weekend, my friends and I took a mini getaway to Anderson, Indiana—a trip sparked by a single question during our last day trip. We’re always on the hunt for fun things to do, and I love pulling out those little nuggets of ideas I’ve stashed away for moments just like this. This time, the destination? Uranus Fudge Factory.

Some of the group had spotted signs for it during a trip out west but hadn’t stopped, and they kept saying, “One day, we’ll go.” Well, I’m not a fan of “one day”—that’s how I ended up with a tattoo, but that’s a story for another day. When I discovered there was a Uranus Fudge Factory just 3 ½ hours away, I knew we had to make it happen. What started as a potential day trip evolved into an overnighter because, honestly, who doesn’t love turning a simple idea into a full-blown adventure? Coordinating a group trip with multiple personalities is no small feat, but if you know me, you know I enjoy a good challenge. Somehow, we managed to plan a fun-filled two-day excursion to Anderson, Indiana—and trust me, finding things to do there is an adventure in itself (just Google it).

We kicked off the weekend with a stop in Grove City, Ohio. A quick museum visit, some light shopping in the few stores open early, and a delicious lunch at Plum Run Winery set the tone for the trip. Wine flights catered to the enthusiasts in our group, while bourbon flights (hello, me) added a little kick. The winery even had a brewery attached, but I’ve come to accept that, while I love the artistry of beer-making, beer will always just taste like…beer to me.

With that warm-up done, we hit the road for our planned highlight: Uranus Fudge Factory. Let me tell you, if you think you don’t have an inner teenage boy, this place will prove otherwise. We laughed until our sides hurt, and the jokes kept rolling—so much so that we decided to visit their brand-new store the next day on our way home. Who could resist the chance to double down on fudge and laughter? The hilarity even seeped into everyday moments; when “Can you open the rear hatch?” becomes laugh-out-loud funny, you know you’re having a good time.

Of course, we added a touch of sophistication to balance things out. A visit to a state park let us explore Celebration Mounds and take a peaceful, scenic walk along the river. We sampled bourbon and other spirits at a local distillery (for free!), savored a fantastic steak dinner, and even indulged our inner foodies with a stop at Jungle Jim’s for international groceries. Sure, we unleashed our inner kids, but hey, we’re still classy adults—mostly.

All in all, it was another unforgettable trip for the books, filled with laughter, great company, and memories to last a lifetime. As always, we’re already planning the next few adventures, so stay tuned! I’ll be posting links to all the spots we visited on my travel tales page, along with some photos and more stories to relive the fun.

Remember, adventure doesn’t have to mean big, fancy destinations. It’s about making memories, embracing the unexpected, and occasionally finding joy in your inner (and sometimes hilariously inappropriate) child.
